What We Expect
Honor Your Commitment
While the PMC is grateful for the time and energy our volunteers donate, it is essential that every PMC volunteer position be filled in order to ensure a smooth and successful event. If you are unable to participate, we ask that you cancel your participation prior to the event on-line (using your My PMC page) or by calling our office.

While we do our best to deliver a well organized and fun volunteering experience, we need you to realize that most positions entail a good deal of hard work. When registering to volunteer at the PMC we ask that you make a commitment to work your full shift from beginning to end. Failing to fulfill your volunteering obligation, be it by arriving late or leaving early, might unfairly burden fellow volunteers as well as the cyclists.

Remain Flexible
While we do our best to plan for the weekend, inevitably we find that resource management varies greatly within the sites. Please remain flexible and remember why you volunteered. In the words of one of our volunteer leaders, “It’s not about what you want to do, but where you are needed.” We will do our best to give volunteers an opportunity to work where their interests lie, but this cannot be achieved in every
instance. Some crews are inherently busy or slow at various times. Please pitch in where you are needed and let your crew leader know if you have physical limitations that preclude you from fulfilling certain tasks. In the end, most of us have chosen to be here because we wish to support the search for a cure.

Take Initiative
We encourage you to take initiative as you are working with your crew. If your task is complete, you may find something else to do within your crew or seek to be reassigned to a crew that needs more assistance. Don’t be afraid to seize an opportunity. If you are in doubt as to whether something might conflict with what is already being accomplished, feel free to check in with your crew leader.

No smoking allowed at any PMC activity!
The PMC is a non-smoking event. Smoking is not allowed at any of the PMC major sites, waterstops or along the route. The PMC is an athletic event and as such, we must consider the health of those around us. Please keep in mind that the PMC benefits Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; many PMC riders and volunteers have family members who have been touched by lung cancer and other smoking-related diseases. Please, if you smoke, leave your cigarettes at home.
