Heather Unruh's Ride

Why I Ride ...

There are so many reasons why I have chosen to ride.  I have become deeply connected to the cancer community in my years as a medical reporter as people shared their amazing stories with me.  My Mom, Dee Unruh, is a 5 year lung cancer survivor, which in itself is enough to make me train and ride 84 miles... seems small in comparison to her fight!  But what motivated me to get on two wheels and start pedaling was the tragic death of someone very special.  Riding the PMC makes me feel like I'm doing something-- truly honoring her life and selflessness.  So I'm riding the PMC in memory of Priscilla Dewey Houghton, a magnificent woman.  Priscilla touched so many lives.    I'm also riding to honor my friend Diane Legg... who will ride next to me again... and she rides with stage 4 lung cancer!  I continue to be blown away by her energy and inspired by her sheer determination.      I'm so proud to be part of the PMC because100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
