Christopher Arnold's Ride
Yellow
Hi,
Father’s Day 2013. I write this after a solo ride that included a stop at Greenlawn Cemetery, the resting place for my daughter Paige and my parents. All three battled cancer in their lifetimes, with Paige and my mom succumbing to it.
In cycling, the color yellow signifies leadership and victory. It was a coincidence that I wore yellow today, but it did get me thinking.
I didn’t feel strong on this ride, but I pushed through and felt the better for it. A small win for me. In our fight against cancer, we’re on a long ride--one with many stages. We win some stages, and we lose others, but the ride and the fight go on. We look for yellow. We look for the win.
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, as a national cancer research center, has the critical mass and tools to attack cancer on many levels. And the Pan Mass Challenge has the power to help: $375 million given since 1980 and $37 million in 2012 alone, and 100% of donations made through riders make it to the DFCI. 100%! Why, that’s as good as Paige’s Butterfly Run! :-)
So if you’ll write another check, or pull out the charge card, I’ll clip into my pedals. Together, we’ll wage war again on cancer--one weekend in August, Sturbridge to Provincetown. This sort of thing takes commitment, doesn’t it? That’s okay, we’re up for it.
My goal in 2013 is $12,000. Please be as generous as you can. If you’ve been touched by a loved one’s cancer or your own, I would like to ride in honor of you, or in honor or memory of your loved one. Please include that name and it will be my privilege to carry it with me on my ride.
Thank you!
Chris
