Jean Cunningham's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Five years ago this August my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and he died the following April.
Cancer touches the lives of so many people.  I don't participate in most fundraisers (though I try to give generously to those who do), because I'm a wuss when it comes to asking other people for money.  But I think the PMC is unique, because exactly 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.  That's right.  All of the money I raise goes to fighting cancer.  So that's why I'm bolstering my courage to ask, because it's not for me.  It's for the moms and dads, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives, family and friends we know who are fighting this disease -- the ones we love, and the ones we have lost -- with the hope that some day, others won't have to fight this battle.
I've been training for this since February, and I'm fortunate that the New England weather has cooperated.  I've been commuting to work 2-3 times a week, and then doing longer and longer rides on the weekends, including a century (woohoo!) in mid-July that's given me a tad more confidence that I'll survive the 200 miles in August.  Cycling is something I do, and can do, and it's my way of contributing.
So please support me if you're able.  Any amount would be appreciated.
To sweeten the deal:  If you donate $100 or more, I'll knit you a hat.  If you donate $250 or more, I'll knit you a pair of mittens (those thumbs are hard).  A gift of $500 gets you a matched set.  You can choose the colors, you just need to tell me the size.  Knitting is the other thing I can do, and my way of saying thanks.
